Cristian Mihailescu graduated from the Academy of Music from Bucharest - singing section. Employed as singer at National Opera from Bucharest (tenor) he interpreted 47 roles from Mozart to Stravinski, including Verdi, Puccini, Offenbach and Johann Strauss.
In one's capacity of singer he participated to manifold festivals and sustained concerts and performances on the main big stages of the country. He registered several records and participated at various radio and TV emissions.
Also he participated in artistic tours about Italy, Germany, Greece, Spain so on and. In Italy at Peccary he was awarded with "Pantheon Prize".
He wrote more than 1000 articles of musical critiques in majority specialized publications.
Cristian Mihailescu graduated from post university courses of opera stage too, at the Academy of Theatre and Film from Bucharest.
He is member of European Academy of Musical Theatre from Vienna (the single Romanian) and of the "Eurolyrica" Association, which gather him most important directors of opera from Europe (the single Romanian).
Starting with 1994 he has been upholding the stage course "Cristian Mihailescu" in Japan at Tokyo, Nagasaki and Saytama.
Stage director of international notoriety he staged opera performances in several countries from which the most recent there are: "Madame Butterfly" at Nagasaki,"Un Ballo in Maschera" at Tokyo,"Les Pecheurs de Perles" in Holland, "Cosi fan Tutte « (1999) and « Carmen »(2000) at Toulon (France).
He was awarded with all stage prizes, existing in Romania, or « Il Barbiere di Siviglia" mounted in Brasov. Also he was awarded with "The Year Stage Director" conferred by Union of Composers for "Othello" in 1999; The Prize of the Musical Criticism Union for the best lyric moment" for "I Capuletti ed I Montecchi" in 1997 and the Prize "The Best Performance of the Year" for "Traviata" on the stage of National Opera Bucharest.
On the other side he was distinguished with other prizes such: "The Prize for Artistic Management" in 1994, awarded to the best Opera Manager from Romania; twice in 1994 and, the Prize "The Man of Culture of the Year" in 1996.
He is frequently invited to participate at preliminary examinations and international seminaries, related to the opera stage field, or administration manners of the lyric theatre.
In this sense a conclusive example is represented by the invitations of the French commission for UNESCO, from Paris, during the years 1998, 1999 and 2000 and Vienna during the years 1999, 2000, and 2001.
Starting with 1996 he is a permanent member of the jury "International Contest" from Marmande (France).
From 1992 to 2000 he was General Manager of the Lyric Theater from Constanta, which became under his leading "The Constanta Opera".
Starting with September 2000 he has been General Manager of Lyric Theatre from Brasov. Under his leading the Lyric Theatre became Brasov Opera, an accomplished dream of the artists, but also music fans of Brasov.
Brasov Opera sustained during the theatrical season 2000 - 2001 an impressive tour on 20 stages all over Germany.
The enthusiastic chronicles confirm the success enjoyed by "Cosi fan Tutte" of Mozart in Cristian Mihailescu production.
In only four months the opera collective was invited to perform in Bucharest in the Revolution Square, on the stage where Luciano Pavarotti held concerts;, at the "Diplomats' Club", in the presence of dozens members of the diplomatic staff, empowered in Bucharest, and after all in the International festival "George Enescu", Brasov Opera being the single institution from Romania, that received a such honorable invitation.
Just returned from Bucharest the singers, the chorus ,the orchestra and the Opera's ballet inaugurated "The Weavers Bastion" under Cristian Mihailescu baton, a cultural act, that meant the reintroducing an historical side, unique in our country into the artistic circuit.
In October 2000 he signed the stage of a mega-performance "IRIS-ATHENAEUM" sustained on the Palace Stage from Bucharest, in the presence of more than 5000 spectators .The show was considered by mass-media as "The most important cultural moment of last years" and in December 2000 he staged another mega show "Felicia Filip and her guests" on the stage of the National Opera Bucharest.
In 2002, he mounted "CARMEN" on the stage of Opera House from Brasov, the show which was played on 24 stages in Germany and Austria in a big success.
In January 2003 he signed at Brasov Opera, the last Verdi's opera „Falstaff", and after just two months he was invited to Romanian National Opera Bucharest where he signed the same opera, both performances considered by the enthusiastic chronicles, a very great success of the theatrical season 2002-2003.
In 2003 - The Director of the INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL of OPERA, OPERETTA and BALLET - edition I.
In February 2004 - Cristian Mihailescu mounts „DON PASGUALE" by G. Donizetti, on the scene Opera House Brasov, .The collective of Opera Brasov organized a tour on Austria, Germany, Switzerland, and Holland, Great Britain with this show in April - June 2004.
In September - October 2004 - The Director of the INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL of OPERA, OPERETTA and BALLET - edition II.
In November 2004, he signed the stage direction of the opera " The Counts D'Hoffmann" by Offenbach and in February 2005 for the opera: "The Fishers in the Pearls" by G. Bizet. Brasov Opera went on long tour with 28 performances of these two plays in Germany, France, Switzerland, Holland, and Luxemburg.
In November 2004 - he is the stage director of the show ‘"Don Giovanni" by Mozart, the first opera multimedia show from Romania.
In October 2005- The Director of the INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL of OPERA, OPERETTA and BALLET - edition III.
In December 2005 the Local Council from Brasov awarded the highest title: CITIZEN OF HONOURE.
In April-May 2006 - Brasov Opera go on European tour in Germany, Austria, France, Switzerland, Luxemburg, with his latest mounting of the opera "Don Giovanni" by Mozart.
Teaching Activity:
- 1990-1992: teacher at the Institution of Film and Theatre: „Ion Luca Caragiale" Bucharest - The Art of the actor in the Theatre of Music.
- 1998-2002: teacher at the University: „Ovidiu" from Constantza, the Faculty of Music - opera class.
- 2000-2004 teacher at the „Transilvania" University from Brasov, the Faculty of Music - opera class.
- 2004: teacher at the National University of Music from Bucharest - opera class
He gives- 1994 he gives Opera Direction course called „Cristian Mihailescu" at Tokyo, Nagasaki, Saitama (Japan).
- July 2004: Master class: Opera Direction at the Academy of Music from Prague (Czechoslovakia) for the students from three continents.
- May 2005: National Audition and Master class at Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver (Canada).
- June 2005 he gets the title of Doctor in Music at the National University of Music from Bucharest with the mention „Magna cum laudae".
- June 2005: Master class: Opera Direction at Beijing and Shanhai (China).
- July 2005: Master class: Opera Direction at Brno (Czechoslovakia).
- April 2006: Master class: in Canada - Montreal - Toronto - Vancouver.
in China at Beijing, Shanghai, Chengu.
